They Like It!!

Paul and Rachel stopped by for a visit...

and to pick up their wedding quilt.

I had taken some photos indoors,
but asked them to pose for a

few more on their way out.

Waiting...

I was reading Ashley's blog (Film In The Fridge) the other day...she had written a post about her unfinished quilts.  Go here to see what she has to say (and show).  

It got me to thinking that I really need to finish some wip's.  Good grief!  I have probably about 8 quilt tops done, but five of them actually have the backing ready and are completely ready to be finished!  So, what's the holdup?  I just need to get at them and get them done!  Right?  (And, you know what's even better?  I have the bindings ready for those five, too!!!)

Here they are, in no particular order...

Wonky Log Cabin (wow...I started this back in September of 2009!) 

Paris Park...this is for Kaylynn and was started 2 years ago...

Paul (son) and Rachel's wedding quilt...been married almost 3 years now...oops!

And, this whirlygig quilt that I am not totally in love with (but am sure I will be once it's quilted)...

Kashmir Filmstrip...

I also have this one waiting...it's from Kelley and it is all hand-pieced.  I've not done anything but prepare a backing for this yet because I keep thinking I should hand-quilt it.  We shall see what happens with it.  Need to make up my mind and get it done.

                      

 

Of course, you know that there are more in various stages, but I really need to get at those five that are waiting.  

Anyway.  Just taking stock.

And, trying to keep cool in this hot weather.

What Kept Me From Going Crazy!

I am so thankful that I have

something that keeps me busy!

Sunday Sundries...

It's Sunday night...back to work tomorrow.

The days of the weekend seem to go by

so much faster than the days of
the week, don't they?

Kaylynn left mid-morning.

I enjoy having her so much.

Oh!  I didn't show you this...

she told her Mom that I like to get stuff.

I've never gotten 'stuff' from her before, 

so I was especially overjoyed to receive this.

I don't know if you can see that 

the 2 middle fingers are bent over.

She treats it as a secret code

that we can share across the room.

I love that little girl!

After the house showing, 

it started raining.

oh.  yeah.
Claire called yesterday morning

to tell me the realtor wanted to 

show the house this morning.

That meant some cleaning needed to be done.

While Kaylynn was here.

oh joy.

Actually, it wasn't so bad.

She helped me.

Truly.

{grin}

Anyway.
It's been raining on and off all
afternoon...making for a damp & dreary day.
But, it's supposed to be in the
high 70's this week!

I finished reading a great book this afternoon.

The Mailbox by Marybeth Whalen.

The book is a Christian-based romance novel.

A simple read.

A delightful read.

I sewed 2 more blocks for Paul/Rachel's quilt.

That makes 16 done!

Since Kaylynn was the only grandchild

here this weekend, I did not sort any woolens.

I'll get to that this week.

It's my 'from now til the end of September' project.

I've been thinking quite a bit about my big a** star rug.

I looked at the last photo I took of it...

25 months ago was the last I hooked on it! 

Wow.

Hard to believe!

Here it is.

Though, I think I might have taken all 

of the brown background strips out.

Not going to go and look.

Just sayin'.

Everything that's hooked was done in 12 days.

And, just so ya know...

that star is 22" across.

Hence, BIG a** Star rug!

One More Block.

Here's what I did today...

another block for Paul/Rachel's quilt.

Block number 14.

I think I originally said that I would make 25 blocks.

That's not gonna happen.

I don't have enough fabric left to make another 11 blocks.

I have enough fabric to make a few more.

 16 blocks would be a good number to have...

then it'd be about 72x66.

But, I want it to be a little larger than that.

Question:

What do you get when you

run through an electric fence

into a horse pasture?

Yup.

That's what Tag did.

Got off his cable.

Ran to the pasture that is 

enclosed with electric fence...

and Twist kicked him.

What was Tag thinking?

Twist outweighs him by

several hundred pounds!

I mean, really.

No reason to worry, Tag is fine.

Given half a chance, 

he'd probably try it again, though.

Brown dog = mud for brains.

Some of the time.

Had the nerve to ask for a treat when

I brought him into the house.

As if.

Other than that, it's been a very quiet weekend.

Talked with all 3 of my sisters.

Sewed.

Got 4 blocks done for Paul's & Rachel's quilt.

Finished quilting Carole's quilt last night.

Machine stitched the binding on and am 

about half done hand sewing it to the back.

Watching 'Friends' while doing that.

(I have all but the last 3 seasons.)

Sometimes, laughing so hard, I cannot sew.

Will show photos in another few days.

For those of you who wonder about this type of thing...

it took about an hour to put these 2 blocks together.

No idea if that's fast or slow...

just sayin'.

edited to add:  here is what's involved in putting each block together...

-sew 9 pairs of rectangles together.  press.

-cut each sewn pair in half across the seam line to make 2 2patches.

-sew 3 2patches together to make a row of 6 squares.  press.

-sew 6 rows together to make a block.  press.

I chain-piece as much as possible...

saves a lot of time and thread.

That's 5 down...20 to go.

I've had a quiet weekend.

Diddled around with stuff, straightened, etc.

Talked with oldest sister Joyce for 3 hours yesterday.

Got all caught up with each other.

Worked on another project that 

should be completely done tomorrow.

A Finish and a Third!

I finished my dqs9 quilt last night!

About 23" square.

I braved the mosquitoes so the photo 

could be taken outdoors this afternoon.

I think it was worth being swarmed...

the colors show nicer & are more true.

This afternoon, I made block 3 for Paul & Rachel's quilt.

Let me just say...there will be 25 of these blocks.

You may get very bored looking at them.

For sure, you will run out of adjectives!

Inspired!

It's always a good day when inspiration hits.

You may or may not remember way back in March

when I had all the fabric cut for my son's quilt.

A wedding gift for Paul & Rachel.

They got married in December.

Au.then.tic + a red and a purple and more blacks.
Here are the blocks all cut...

 then all sewn together...

I started putting the blocks together...

and didn't like how it was looking.

At all.

So, I put it all away.

Waited for inspiration.

And, waited.

woohoo...finally got some!

Inspiration, that is.

I reverse-sewed all the blocks.

Didn't take long.

A few nights in front of the tv.

I don't plan to mix the other
fabrics with the Au.then.tic. fabrics.

Maybe will use them on the back.
Time will tell.


I now have 2 blocks done.

Started sewing the rectangles together 

and then cutting them in half, 
then making rows.

The 'squares' are not quite square,

but I wasn't going to trim them all.

And, in the end, it doesn't really matter.

Does it?

 I have 2 blocks done...

36 'not quite squares' in a block...

each block measures about 16.5 x 18 inches.

There will be 25 blocks...

making the finished quilt about 80 x 87 inches.

(my largest quilt, yet!)

I think Paul and Rachel will be happy.

  I know I will be.

A Good Day...

Paul, Rachel and Devin came to help clean out the garage and basement.  We got a lot done and had a good time doing it, too!  For lunch, I treated us to pizza from Papa Murphy's.  So YUMMY!!!

I took only these two photos...too busy to remember to take more, I guess.

That's all I have for now.  Gonna rest my knee and then do some sewing.  Maybe.

Not even sure I'm happy with it.

Winter's Last Hurrah...

I hope.

I didn't get much done today.

Sewed a bunch last night during

the Friday Night Sew-in...

150 blocks sewn.

Started laying out the blocks this morning...

didn't like what I was seeing.

CRAP!

So, I changed things up a bit

and laid some blocks out.

Again.

Not sure what I think.

Ran out of time.

Leaving everything where it is.

Things will look better

(or, at least different)

tomorrow.

Friday Night Sew-in...

It's tonight!  I am psyched...have my evening all planned out.  Eat, feed Tag, put jams on, get good music on, start sewing!  

I am going to start piecing Paul's quilt...I am so excited!  I was going to wait until I had a few more things done.  Like the 3 quilt tops that are waiting to be basted and quilted and finished.  However, I am short on batting, so they'll have to wait until I get over to Hobby Lobby.  In the meantime, I can start on this!  {grin}

Just as a reminder...here is the pile of fabric pieces all cut out and ready to go.

What's Goin' On...

I've got some projects going on.

4 major ones...a few minor ones.

I think.

Could be wrong.

In any case...

I got the backing together for last year's BOM.

This quilt will be going to Janer.

Not sure if you all knew that or not.

That corner there, with the red blocks...

that's a signature square.

On the back.

I started putting my Charmed Whirlygig top together.

Bit by bit, it'll get done.

Borders to add once the rows are together.

Backing is a large floral...gonna be very exciting!

I have all of the blocks cut out for Paul & Rachel's quilt.

I am very anxious to get started,

but really need to finish those other things first.

And, I got the backing all sewn together for the quilt top Kelley sent me.

With the backing fabric she sent me.

More than enough.

Will use the rest of these 3 for a scrappy binding.

Maybe.

I also have a large rug hooking order that I've been working on.

Almost done.

So, that's what I've been up to.
