Covid. What a horrible time. The illness, the isolation, the fear, the deaths.
At the time COVID hit the United States, me Mum had been in a nursing home for almost 3 years.  We were unable to visit her beginning in March of 2020.  She had deteriorated quite a bit mentally, so we did not know how much she comprehended the lack of visits from her daughters.  On June 19, we were notified that she was doing very poorly. The nurses felt she was close to death. Circling the drain, they called it. We were able to visit, so we took turns keeping watch over her. She was not aware that we were there. On June 29, Mum passed peacefully.
I miss her. I think of her always. I often expect the phone to ring…to hear her voice. It does not happen, of course.
