Orientation...

It is thundering and raining...what a great day for sewing!  That's what I did...sewed.  And, I finished a quilt top!

In the box that I received from Cathy last week, there were some half-square triangles (28) and squares (40) from the same fabric collection.
I don't know if these were part of a project that Cathy started and abandoned, or if they were left over from a finished project...or what.  But, I did know that if I trimmed them and sewed them together, I would have a nice sized toddler quilt.

So, I trimmed them all into 5 1/2 inch squares.  Then I sewed them together.  Somewhat randomly...

Perhaps you noticed that the hst's are not all oriented the same way.  I always, always orient them the same way.  Like in this doll quilt...see how the white is always in the upper right corner?

Here's a closer look at a part of the quilt I made today...

See it?  The one in the middle of the bottom row has the white in the lower left corner rather than in the upper right corner like the other three.  When one makes hst's with fabric that is directional (meaning there is an obvious up and down to the print), not all of them are able to be used if you are wanting to orient them in the same direction.  If you are using fabrics that have an allover design (meaning it looks the same from any direction), you don't have that problem.

I gave that issue some thought.  And, I decided that it would bother me less if the hst's were not oriented the same way than if the prints were upside down or sideways.  ~grin~

I think it adds a certain charm to this quilt.

This flimsy measures about 40 inches square.

In the Mail and A Finish and Princess Kaylynn...

You all know how I love getting packages in the mail...even when they are expected!  So, yesterday I received a box of stuff from Cathy.  I love getting packages from her!  This time, she sent some stuff for dolls (one of these days, a doll will be made) and some fabric pieces.

Here is what she sent...
yarns

flannel

velours

cottons
And, of course, I love it all!

Thank you so very much, Cathy!!

Those of you on FaceBook already saw these photos, but here they are for those of you who did not.  My granddaughter, aka Princess Kaylynn, was here for an overnight last night.  Here are the photos...

Kaylynn helped me out by holding my wonky charms quilt top so I could get a photo of it...
A Walk in the Woods wonky charms quilt top ~55" square

Kaylynn drew pictures and told stories, sang songs and played with Tag.  We watched the movie, "Super Buddies".  And, we ate.  Kaylynn has always been a good eater.  She will eat anything I fix her, though that's not saying much cuz I am not a very adventurous eater.  Here's what we had for supper (taco stuff on a bed of Fritos - Yummy!)...and I must tell you, she ate more than I did!  And, she had dessert!

Kaylynn left this morning.

Tag is sound asleep.

My head is full of ideas of doll stuff.

Have a great Sunday!

A Little Sewing...

Doing a little sewing this afternoon.

Time to turn on the air conditioner.
There...much better.

Wonky Charms quilt in progress.
All the blocks are ready to go...

 Now to sew the sashing...

Won't take long to put the top together.

See ya on the flip side.

The Little Strawberry Things...

Yesterday was a lazy day for Tag and I.  I did manage, however, to make two little things.

I have had two pieces of strawberry fabric sitting around, staring me in the face, waiting and wondering what I was going to do with them.

One piece was from my partner in the strawberry pincushion swap that I participated in last fall.  Here is what I received...see the fabric?

I, of course, ate the candy and tic tacs and chewed the gum.  The koala bear and kangaroo buttons are still waiting to be used.  The strawberries joined my little collection.  And, now, I finally used a bit of the fabric...I made a little pincushion!
measures 3" square.

And, because the partner I sent to was so thankful for what I sent her, she sent me a package which included some wonderful strawberry fabric.  Read about it here.  Here is the fabric...isn't it pretty?

With this fabric, I made myself another thread catcher.  It will sit on my side table along with the wool strawberry pincushion that you saw from Donna in the above link.  Here it is...
measures ~5x3x3 inches.

I still have enough of the two pieces to do more with, but I am satisfied.  For now.  I will put them away until the next perfect little projects require them.

And, as usual, I have several quilty projects awaiting my attention, plus some sewing to do for a few of my family members.  Plus, there is a new quiltalong that I want to join...that I am already behind on.  I guess I won't be able to complain of having nothing to do for awhile, hey?

What are you working on?

PS  Today is Flag Day...Happy Birthday, Bob!

The Little Kleenex Cozies...

I made some kleenex cozies
and sent them to Ohio.
To Kelley of With Hook and Needle and her Mom.

Kelley is definitely not into bright colors.
Primitive is her style and color palette.

These are the cozies I sent...
had to send this one...such soft colors

too bright for them, but they have friends, right?

hoping these might  be okay

It's Friday the 13th!

And, a full moon!

Have a good weekend, okay?

The Little Purse...

A former coworker posted a photo on FaceBook of her daughter playing with the little Halloween treat bag that I made for her last year.  Using it as a purse, she was!  Here's a photo of said treat bag...

Well, gosh!  Every little girl needs a purse, right?  One that is suitable for any and every occasion, not just one holiday.  Right?

So, I made one for her...

It measures almost 5" square and is lined with a solid pink fabric.

My Summer Bed...

I am so happy!  I finally got everything done and clean and in place and here it is...my summer bed!

It's not really a summer bed in terms of lightweight covers or only linen sheets (which would be my first choice, would my budget allow), but a summer bed in terms of colors and freshness!

So, here's what I did...I bought a coverlet.  An ivory quilted coverlet.  It was on clearance and then I got more off at the register, so I definitely could not have made one for less than what I paid.  Since I don't like things tucked in, that is all there is.  Mattress pad, fitted bottom sheet, coverlet.  And, then my Sunkissed quilt.  Though not large enough to be any sort of cover for the bed (and that's why I needed the coverlet), I did find a satisfactory way to place it on the bed.  To add color and the summer feel, you know.  I have 2 standard bed pillows, one king pillow with a linen pillowcase, and a small throw pillow for color.

Here are the photos...
almost don't need a bedskirt, but I do like it.

it is not striped, but all the same ivory.
addition of Sunkissed quilt.

addition of Tag's quilt.

perhaps this side is less girly for the boy.

this is what I see when I walk past my bedroom doorway.  makes me smile.

Next Up...

A few weeks ago I showed these fabrics...
and mentioned that I needed to add to them.

So, I did...
here is what I now have.
Fabrics are mostly Vintage Happy
with a few pieces of Bake Sale,
both by Lori Holt.
I added in some Riley Blake
checkers, dots & chevrons.

And, I think that I will use them for this quilt...
The churn dash quilt block is one of my faves,
so this could be fun.

I am still working on the wonky charm quilt and I have a few other things in the works.  I will show progress photos soon.

In the meantime, it's Friday.  Have a great weekend!!
