Irish Chain Challenge Quilt

It's done and I am in love with it!  I know, I love all my quilts, but this one was so simple...especially because of the strip piecing.  Much easier to do that than to piece a bazillion small squares.  Ya know?

I have always been fascinated by the Irish chain quilts.  They look so very difficult - but they're not!  There are single chains, double chains, triple chains...who knew?

When I joined the Small Quilt Talk group (click on the button in my sidebar to go see what they're all about), the first thing I did was start this Irish Chain Challenge.  Our challenge quilts can be no larger than 30 inches square.  This one is about 19 inches square.  I think a lot of the quilters will be hand quilting their challenge quilts.  I don't know how to hand quilt, and I really have no desire to learn.  That being said, I wanted the quilting to be simple...evocative of simpler times.  So, I machine stitched diagonal lines in both directions, so that they met in the center of the setting squares.  I am very happy with this.

Just beautiful, I admit I went and tracked down a pattern because I of course thought you sewed each square.
I love how it turned out. I saw the doubles and the triples, but I think I like the single best. Oh and wow, all that you got done this weekend,
How very impressive.
I sewed on a button today.

You make it look so simple! It is something I want to learn someday.

love it Jacque - I have one my Mom made a number of years ago - but no where to put it - it's just not my colors - mauve and blue! (Hey i said a number of years ago) but I always loved the design too! I can't believe you are done!

Your piece is wonderful, I really love that pattern.
I want to do more small quilts with patterns, but intimidated by all those tiny pieces.

GOOD for you, It looks absolutely Wonderful...I do like the Single Irish Quilt chain, especially in the photo of the 1933 one, Great repro prints. Wish I could easily get the worn thin feel of the fabric with my work...
As others have said, 'You make it look SO simple'...

Jacque this is beautiful. I love the Irish Chains. When I got back into quilting again in '05 I made a lot of Double Irish Chain quilts. It was my "go to" pattern for gifts. You've inspired a post! I'll show you mine.
