Finished!!!

It's been a good week in the sewing room.  Naomi Janome and I have been keeping close company.

First up is the sewing organizer I finished last night.  The pattern is by my friend, Donna, and can be found on the Craftsy website here.  I had been planning to purchase it for some time...finally got around to it and knew I wanted to use my Kashmir III fabrics.  If you will recall, I used Kashmir III to make two quilts...here and here
Front.  I used selvages for the ties.  I made them long enough
to wrap all around the organizer, which was different than the pattern.

Back.

I changed the inside a bit to be more what I needed.
The twill measuring tape makes me smile.

As usual, I am coming very late to the party, but I am going to start making some projects with hexagons.  This organizer was made with that in mind...the perfect portable project to work on when I am spending time with me Mum.

YES!  Only 12 days until me Mum arrives!  The time is coming quickly...soooo excited!

And, I have been making napkins...
Set of 4.

Separates.

Set of 4.

It's such a good way to use up fabric pieces that I know I won't use for anything else.

My LQS is sponsoring a program called Quilts 4 Paws...asking for donations of kennel quilt pallets. There are general specifications to follow in making them...and will go to the dogs and cats of the shelter here and others in the state.  I  think I am going to jump on that wagon...what a good cause, hey?

Have a great day!

Sunkissed Revisited!

Remember back here, when I made
the Sunkissed quilt for my lqs?
I've been visiting it on a regular basis...
waiting impatiently for it to come home.
Well, it finally did!
YAY!  I love this quilt!
Not sure what I'll do with it, though.
For now, I will admire it.

And, my goofy quilt holder
(aka sister Julie, aka J3)...
when I say, "turn, please"...
this is what she does.

I have several sewing projects
planned for this weekend.
How about you?
What are you up to?

Restless Sleeper

My granddaughter, Kaylynn is here for an overnight.
We had so much fun today...
she is such a delight.
And, so much like her dad...
it sometimes scares me!

We went to the orchard to buy apples.
It was very windy out there.

We went to the library and brought home several books.
Kaylynn is learning how to read and does very well.

We went to my lqs and picked up a bit of fabric.

We played Uno.
With 'Clifford the Big Red Dog' cards from sister Joyce.
Kaylynn won 4 out of 5 games.
I think it was beginner's luck.
{grin}

We read and snuggled and
watched a bit of tv and
then it was time for her to sack out on the sofa,
which is what she does until I am ready for bed.

She was a very restless sleeper tonight.

 Tag thinks that Kaylynn is his little girl.
Seriously.

Good night!

SUNKISSED! Giveaway...

Comments are closed.
Thank you!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think I mentioned not too long ago that
I was going to do a giveaway.
I am finally getting to it.
Here.
Today.
(mostly cuz I don't have anything to show you.)
Remember Sunkissed...the fabric?
And, S*U*N*K*I*S*S*E*D,
the quilt I made as a shop sample
for my lqs (seen here)?
With some of the scraps, I made a small quilt.
A very small quilt...it measures 12.5 inches square.
It is dang cute, if I may say so myself.
Would you like to have this?
All you need do is leave a comment on this post.
Please make sure that I have a way to contact you.
I'll close this giveaway next Friday,
September 23, at noon.
Good luck, all!
Penguin Pals...
I haven't been doing much.
Still am so fatigued.
Still taking my daily nap.
I did manage to get this done, though.
Penguin Pals.
A panel with borders...very simple.
A store sample for my LQS,
it measures about 38 x 56.
What are your plans for this holiday weekend?
So Much Time...
There is just so much time in a day.
Not one minute more.
I work 30 hours a week.
Which I love!
By the time I run errands,
(it seems I always have at least one)
it's about 3:00 when I get home.
Oh, I know,
that's way better than about 6:00.
I'm just sayin'...
I wish I didn't have to work at all.
I guess I'm still clinging to my former life
of when I was married...
back when I was a stay-at-home Mom.
(Let's see, I was last married in 1984,
so I am, perhaps, being a bit stubborn
about facing the reality of my life.)
But, I loved my life back then.
I want that again.
Well, okay.
I am almost old enough to retire.
Something that I am so looking forward to!
And, then I will again be a stay-at-home...something.
I wonder if I will have enough energy
to do the things I want to do?
Of which there are many.
Things I want to do.
{sigh}
So, that being said,
it looks like I may have a new 'thing to do'.
I stopped in at my lqs yesterday to pick up
more Sunkissed fabric for the sample quilt.
I needed yardage for the borders and backing.
(look at the scrumptious sherbet orange!)
Gloria, the owner,
is 'thrilled' that I am making this
sample quilt for her shop.
And, she is very happy with
how I'm doing this quilt.
When we were done getting everything I needed,
she mentioned that she would need to
find something else for me to do.
I tell ya, I am dancing on the ceiling!
YIPPEE!
I guess all I can do is work my fingers to the bone.
Doing what I love.
That is a good thing.
Don't you think?
 Kaylynn is coming tomorrow for an overnight.
We're going to watch a movie (or two or four)
and lay around and eat pizza and popcorn.
Sounds like a great time to me!
A Whole Lot of Stuff Goin' On...
WOW.  I have a lot to say today!  You may as well settle in for a long read.
The most fun news, first!  I stopped in at my LQS last Friday.  Saving Thyme is celebrating its 10th anniversary...and everything I bought in the picture below was on sale for either 30% or 50% off.   Except the Lily & Will charm pack.  I couldn't resist that.  Oh, I also bought 2 spools of thread that I need to quilt 2 quilts with.  They were not on sale.
I paid, and was then told that my purchases entitled me to gifts!  YAY!  I was given the book, "The Quilter's Legacy" and the charm pack, which is a mix of creams/golds/greens!  Plus, I received a coupon for $5.00 off my next visit!
I entered a drawing for a fat quarter bundle on my way out the door.  Didn't really pay much attention to it.  Cuz, you know, I never win.
Except, I did!  woohoo!  21 fat quarters, a book of patterns, and 5 fat sixteenths!  How fun is that!!!  The fabric is Sanibel by Henry Glass.  Go here to see all the fabrics in the collection.  No clue at this time what I will make with it.  How fun, though.  I mean, seriously...who wouldn't love to win 21 fat quarters!  I am blessed!
I finally have some decent photos of the baby quilt I was making.  It's for Maggie, a baby girl born last week to coworkers of mine.  She weighed 10 lbs...poor Mama Sara.
You'll remember my struggles with getting this quilt going.  Thankfully, I was inspired by Erin's 'small squares quilt'...though my squares are not small.  Still...inspiration is what it is.  Thank you, Erin!  I used several green charms (5") and Kona cotton solid in Bone.  (ohmygosh..if you've not used Bone...you must!  That color is absolutely fabulous!)  I quilted it with green variegated thread.  Maggie's quilt measures about 38 inches square.
This photo is closest in color, methinks.
I have a roommate!  I have been (kind of) looking for one since I moved here.  Didn't really want one, though.  But, it would help me out to have someone to share a few of the expenses with.  So.  Finally!  Maureen, my spiritual mentor, started talking to me about it a few weeks ago.  I didn't get too excited right away, because we've talked about it before.  But.  She prayed and got her answer!  She'll be moving in by the first of the year.  I think that we will be able to work well together to make this a good place to come home to.  She is so excited about working outside...having a garden, planting flowers, etc.  Well, she can have it!  {grin}  I prefer to sew.  Or almost anything that doesn't involve bugs.  I think this will be very beneficial to both of us and I am very much looking forward to it.  Now that I've gotten used to the idea.
I was at Kelley's blog a bit ago...and was directed here.  Reading this story about broke my heart.  Please visit for an opportunity to help out.
hmmmm...I think that's it!  Did I miss anything?  Let me know if I did.
1st part of DWTS's 2 part finale is tonight!  And, my fave new show, Hawaii 5-O!  I will be planted firmly in my big easy chair.
Today is a GREAT day!!!
Stopped at my LQS and picked up a flying geese ruler and this book, which I had been waiting for...
Then, came home and saw two boxes sitting on my front stoop. How fun is that to come home to, hey?
First box...
Laurie Simpson, quilter/designer of fabric/sister of Polly Minick (rughooker extraordinaire, etc.) mentioned in a post that she had scraps from making 9 pairs of pajamas from their Jingles flannel collection to give away to someone who made/donated baby quilts. So, I emailed her and guess what???? I got them today! Oh. My. Gosh. The box was full and there are so many pieces that are way more than fat quarters! I'll have lots of fun with these!!!
Here it is, 11 different fabrics all folded & stacked...
It's the perfect time of year to be making flannel quilts for the newborns...cannot wait to get started!! Gotta say, these flannels are delicious!!! Thank you so very much, Laurie!!! You are a very generous person!
Second box...Then! I bought some quilt books that Ginger was offering up for sale (for a ridiculously low price of $3.00 each!). I got a little carried away and bought 16 of them. But, hey...think of the value of these books...they're just like new! I think she has some left...go
here.
And, Ginger, being Ginger, sent along those pieces of fabric...about 2 yards each, I think. ohhhhhboy...someone (or two or three) is going to get a very pretty holiday table runner!!!
Wait. That's not all. She also sent along these 3 books. Just cuz. Holy Schmoly. How generous of Ginger, hey? Thank you so very much!!! I can't wait to sit down and browse through all these books and see all the fabulous quilts I can make! I'm hoping that I live to be about 3,000 years old to do all I want to do! ~grin~
I must say...when I began rughooking and got into the online community of hookers, I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly and helpful they all were. I am finding the same thing with the quilting community. Online... and off, too!
Thank you to all of you who have inspired, motivated, shared...and supported me. I am blessed, indeed.
A Glorious Day!!!
I have so much to say (type) and my mind is going about a gazillion miles an hour!!!
Here we go...
I think I posted about this a long time ago. I was given two quilt tops by my (then) MIL. This was back in the mid-70's. Both are very large...a log cabin that is not pretty and this crazy quilt top, which measures ~78" square...
It was made in the 1940's. I've never done anything with it...just dragged it around with me all these years...sometimes it's been packed away, and sometimes it's been sitting around on a bench. Never used it. While at my LQS one day, I asked the owner about who to talk with about my crazy quilt. She offered to call a woman for me. Next thing I knew, I was signed up for a 'learn how to crazy quilt' class.
That class was this morning. So, I hauled my little sewing machine, (the worthless piece of junk) and the crazy quilt to the LQS this a.m. I think the teacher was disappointed in me, as I didn't have a specific crazy quilt project in mind...I just wanted to learn how to do it in case I ever wanted to do it. AND, that I was really only there to find out how to repair and finish my crazy quilt. ohwell.
And, by the way, the crazy quilt teacher thought that the fabrics were much older than when they were used...closer to the turn of the century. WOOHOO! The silk pieces are shredded. Did you know that silk used to be spun with metal in it...cuz it was sold by the pound? Now, there's something that you'll rest better tonight knowing. ~grin~
I think I turned out quite a nice little (8x10) block, don't you? I hated to disappoint her further, so I made a plan to make a pillow with it. Bought some fabric (twigs & berries) and I'm set. Isn't it interesting...I just dug into her big box and these were the colors that I grabbed...they are the ones that grabbed me. My colors. Mary (who works at the LQS) laughed at me, cuz I always whine talk about how I struggle with color. The only thing is...and that's why I chose a green for the border/back of the pillow...that there is only one piece of green in the block. I love green.
I need to do the hand-stitching on the seamlines and, perhaps, some embellishing. Will show you when it's completed.
While selecting my fabric, Mary asked me if I knew about their 'bag' deal. See the bag below? Purchase it for $7.00 (it's big, too...~13x16" and expands 4" or more) and you have a very nice heavy plastic tote with zipper closure for all your stuff. Any stuff. BUT! If you come in to shop on Monday (any Monday) and bring the bag, you'll receive 25% off one item. COOL!!!! Gosh, you'd make up that $7.00 really quickly! So. I bought one. Easy sale. My quiltalong quilt batting will definitely be purchased on a Monday. My Mama didn't raise no dummy!
Stopped at Joann Fabrics to buy some bias tape and brightly colored buttons for the clothes I'll be sewing for Kaylynn. Pillow forms were 40% off! YAY! Got me some perle cotton, too...so I'm all set to finish my crazy quilt block pillow.
AND. A lady at work ran across this puffy (sorry, not sure what the real name is) quilt and thought I might like it. All that needs to be done is to finish sewing the cording/bias fabric around the outside...looks to be about 1/4 done. It currently resides in the trunk of my car, cuz ya just never know where it has been. It may end up in Colorado...the colors are those my sister, Julie, likes.
AND, when I got home I read an email that has me positively jumping with excitement! Cannot share it with you, yet. Sorry.
I mailed out Bren's birthday box, Jo's swap box and Kathleen's pattern.
oh! oh!! oh!!! I used the coolest (okay, the hottest!) iron today!! You leave it laying in a horizontal position (rather than upright, ya know?) and these little things come out to lift it off the ironing board. I don't remember the brand name...but how cool was that!!! You just touch the handle and the little thingies retract. I giggled every time I used it! I own a little $7.00 iron from Wal-Mart. haha!
edited at 10 p.m.to add: found the iron...
Auto-lift Technology
Touch the Iron, and it instantly lowers.
Let go, and it automatically lifts safely above the fabric.
Iron can remain in a safe, stable, horizontal position
on the ironing board at all times.
cool, hey???
There you have it. My Glorious Day!
PS My 2 year blogoversary is in 4 days (see it over on my sidebar)!!! Watch for giveaways! Yes, I said giveaways...as in more than one. Plural. At least two. Maybe more. Probably three. Something for everyone. No, not something for everyone who enters...but something for hookers, and something for quilters, and something for stitchers...like that.
