Corn, Blocks & Dogs...

A bit of this and that today...

One afternoon, as Julie and I were driving home, I wondered aloud how tall the field corn was.  Julie stopped her car and stood next to the corn stalks so I could see.  You could say that she is...outstanding in her field.  (ya know...out standing in her field)  {grin}  Okay.  Never mind.  Julie is 5'4".  But really...see how tall the corn is?

I finished two more blocks for the Summer Sampler Series Quiltalong.  Yesterday's block is called 'Star'.  It was paper-pieced.

The block I finished today is called 'Arkansas Traveler'.  It also was paper-pieced.

I have 5 more blocks to make of this summer sampler, but I may make an additional 4 blocks to make it larger.  Time will tell.

The boys (read dogs) were having a grand time chewing sticks and pieces of bark (ya gotta eat a certain amount of 'bark' so you can make good noises, mama!...???).

Hope your weekend is wonderful!

Hopelessly Devoted to You...

Julie & I spend the better
part of most evenings
in the living room.

We're very comfortable...
each in our own chairs.

Where do the dogs spend their evenings?
They're not too far away...
you'll find them here.

Ramblings...

It's a nice, quiet Saturday afternoon.  Time to sit down and relax.  I could do some sewing or stitching.  I will get to that in a bit.

Julie and I had a busy day straightening, moving things around, and doing laundry.  I bathed Tag.  Manley will get his bath tomorrow and we will vacuum and dust.  Then, we'll be ready for company.  Our mom is coming for a visit this next week.  All must be looking good.  Right?  She'll be here Thursday until Sunday.  We'll play lots of cards, for sure...it's her favorite thing to do.  Last time she was here was almost 4 years ago.  You can read about our fabulous time together here and here and here.  {grin}

Have I mentioned that we fenced part of the yard, again?  We did.  The fence was taken down when this house was on the market last year.  Now that the house is no longer on the market, and when Julie moved in with me, we asked if we could put up a fence again.  The one that was taken down was actually in good shape (read reusable), so we put it back up and the dogs are loving it.

One of Manley's favorite pastimes is to chew sticks.  Perhaps he feels the need for more fiber?

We have a new puppy!  She will stay outside, though.  Gray in color, she weighs at least 70 pounds...such a solid little thing...measures about 22 inches tall.  Isn't she darling?
A friend got her at an estate sale and gave her to me.

I'm almost done with the main part of the sunshine quilt.  If all goes as planned, I'll be showing that pretty soon.  Well, perhaps a sneak peek sooner than that.

In the meantime, I started a quick little project that makes me smile...
Wonky Star doll quilt.  Yellows and oranges with Kona solid in White.  What could be cuter than that?

Hope your weekend is as good as mine!

This and That...

 Tag is feeling much better.
Thank you for all of your
good thoughts & prayers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's a watercolor print I had made
(several years ago...one for me & one for Julie)
depicting Manley and Tag at play.
This is how they actually played
together when they were pups.
For some reason, I never got
an actual photo of them like this.
They are 6 months apart in age.
art by Jenny McMurtie...find her here.
 This is Kisa, Tag's feline cousin.
Tag's cousins, Manley and Kisa,
will be here in a few days.
And, of course,
sister Julie will be here, too.
I am so excited!
I keep telling Tag that our
lives are going to change.
Drastically.
But, all for the better.
He has yet to be convinced.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A bit of trivia:
Manley was named after the football player...
Dexter Manley.
Just so ya know, before Manley,
Julie had another golden retriever
whose name was Dexter.

And another bit of trivia:
Tag was named after Rachel Green's boyfriend.
Tag Jones.
Ya know, on "Friends".
Real name, Eddie Cahill...
he now plays a detective on CSI: NY.

Speaking of Sisters...

My sister, Jill, will arrive at her
new home in Colorado today.
Best wishes and all my love to her
as she begins this new chapter in her life.

Sister Julie is moving back to Wisconsin...
and in with me!
I'll have a roommate...so will Tag!
YAY!

Julie has a dog and a cat.
Manley (the original doodlehead)
is a golden retriever...
6 months older than Tag.
Manley & Tag grew up together.
Spent parts of every day together...
until Julie moved away 4 years ago.
It'll be nice to have them together again.
 Julie's cat will be here, too.
Not sure how that'll go over with Tag.
Never having lived with a cat.
He may think Kisa is his new toy.

We're pretty excited about our new adventure!

That's all I have for now.
Have a great day.

You've Got Mail!

Tag...you've got mail!

One day this past week, a package arrived.
For Tag.
From his cousin, Manley.
The original Doodlehead.
See him here.

Manley sent a Christmas/Birthday gift.
(Tag's birthday is in 3 weeks.  He'll be 8 years old!)
Tag was so excited to get a new toy...
he galloped (truly!) around the house with it.
This isn't the greatest photo, but it's the best I have.

Thanks, Manley!

One More Finish...Manley...Allegra.

I tried to post this yesterday, but my satellite speed internet was down. It was raining. Clouds and interference, ya know. I hate it! The SSI, not the rain. Well, sometimes I hate the rain. You know.

I actually got a lot done this weekend, which makes me very happy. AND, I sold my little 'animals & alphabets' quilt. YAY!

I finished the doggie blanket I started last weekend. I say doggie blanket, not because it is made with fabric prints of bones and dogs and pawprints and doggie commands (though it most certainly is!), but because it's for a dog. Look at those cute pups. The pups and the bones fabrics are from Erin, my 'we double rock' swap partner. Thanks, Erin! I quilted this with circles, not depicting pebbles or stones (though that could be very fitting in this case ~grin~) but to depict balls. This blanket was specially ordered by Manley...paid for with his allowance that he earned by helping his mom pick up sticks and pine cones. He must have worked really hard...he sent me $29.00!

I have always hand stitched the binding of my quilts to the back, but in this case, I machine stitched it. Turned out really nice. Easier than I thought, too. Fold it to the back, stitch in the ditch on the front!

I suppose you're wondering who Manley is.

Remember this photo?
Here's another one...

The basket measures approximately 16x22 inches. The dog is a full-grown Golden Retriever weighing about 70 pounds.

That dog is my doodlehead, Manley. That's where the word doodlehead comes from, by the way. Cuz he is such a doodle. He belongs to my sister, Julie. She used to live in Madison in the apartment behind me (now lives in Colorado). When Julie first got Manley, I worked nights and she worked days, so we worked together and quickly got him housebroken. He is 6 months older than Tag...they used to be great playmates! I special ordered this print of Manley and Tag...one for me and one for Julie. I'm not sure why I never got an actual photo. But, this picture shows exactly how they used to play. Okay. Anyway. The basket. When I would go over (down the hall 30 feet) to visit Julie, Manley would always come and sit in front of me. So, I would play with his ears, holding them in different breed ear positions..."this is what you would look like if you were a collie", etc. I would blow in his ears. And in his nose. I would play with his flews.
He let me do whatever I wanted with him. Didn't really enjoy it, but would keep coming back for more. One day, Julie had the empty laundry basket sitting on the floor. So, I asked Manley to get in. He did...cuz he's a doodlehead. ~grin~ Then, I asked him to lay down. Now, really...he's much too big for that basket. But, determined to please his Auntie Jacque, he scrunched down in it and even managed to look somewhat comfortable!
I sure miss Manley. I hope he can come back to WI sometime when Julie visits. I know he won't be coming this year...~sigh~
I originally planned to say much more about Manley, but I am very distracted today.
Allegra, though doing better, is not completely normal. She's having a difficult time eating and drinking...isn't using her tongue. Seriously. Not. Using. Her. Tongue. How, you ask, does she not? That's the question of the day. So, she's going to the clinic tomorrow and Claire will anesthetize her and give her a thorough oral exam, a dental cleaning and whatever else might need to be done. Needless to say, I am very worried about my little girl.

A No-Show!

...cannot show you the other project that I finished today. It's for one of my sisters...to be given at our upcoming Sisters Weekend! At least I got one more thing crossed off my list!

Gonna read and that's it for this evening.

I'll leave you with this photo...will tell you all about it in a few days. Promise.

This Week had a lot of 'happenings'...

I guess I should have posted this last weekend. Then, you would have known about the things that were to come, instead of learning about things that have already happened.

Monday, August 20...Robert Plant celebrated his 59th birthday. Happy Birthday, Percy!

He just completed a new album with Alison Krauss! Entitled, "Raising Sand', this album will be out on October 23...cannot wait! Here's the album art...

Tuesday, August 21...this day would have been Cruiser's 11th birthday. I've been without him for almost 6 months...I miss him still...very much.

Friday, August 24...a double whammy day. This day was Manley's 6th birthday...WOOF! (Manley is my sister's dog.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DOODLEHEAD!!!

Also, this day was Robyn's last day at work! It sure was great working with her these past 5+ months! She's my son's age...but she totally 'got' me (as not everyone does)! She will be missed by all.
