GIVEAWAY!!!!

Yay!!!

A GIVEAWAY!!!

For no special reason.

Just that I made this small quilt
and want to share it with one of you.

This small quilt is made up of 2.5"
red, blue, green and brown squares
and measures ~17 inches square.
I quilted it with straight lines...
one on each side of every seam.

It has not been laundered...
thought I would leave that up to the winner.
I will include care instructions.

This will be quick and easy.
Just leave a comment on this post...
telling me why Fall is special to you.

It is not my favorite season...
mostly because it seems short...
and it is followed by the dreaded winter!

(I do, however, love the colors of fall!)

**Entries are now closed...thank you!**

Please ensure that you are reachable by email.

Good Luck!

Back...For Better or Worse!

I am back.

Finally.

I have a computer...a laptop!  woohoo!

I have internet access.

What could be better?

Well, am sure there are better things, but for right now, right here...this is it.  I sure have missed posting...and it is a bit difficult to comment - at least more than a few words - on your blogs with my phone...so hopefully, you will see more comments from me on your blogs.

In the meantime, I've some photos to show you.

Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I pretty much gave up on knitting socks...until (if) I take a class.  In the meantime, I have been knitting these...keeping my hands busy while I am too unsettled to do much of anything else.  I plan to make many of these for Christmas gifts to give my coworkers.  This is a fun - and easy - design called 'double bump'.

Me Mum and sister Julie were in town...we spent some time playing cards.  Dimes.  I won 60 cents that day, so it was a good time.  {grin}

I have slowly been getting unpacked.  Decided to go through my cedar chest...look what was there?  These dresses were worn by my sisters in my wedding.  Way back in '74.  Junior bridesmaid and bridesmaid.  I might have to make something out of them.  For fun.  What else would I do with them?  Don't really have a reason to keep them,  ya know?

I put this together last weekend when I just had to sew something!  Ya know?  I think it will be a giveaway.  When finished.  Should be in the not too distant future.

And.  A few posts back, I posted this photo...

No one said anything.  "cat got your tongue"?  {grin}

Yes.  This is Kisa.  My sister's cat.  Or, should I say...used to be my sister's cat?  Yup, that's right.  She now lives with me.  And, Tag.  Julie wasn't able to take her to the apartment she's living in with me Mum, so...

Never having had a cat before, I am finding the experience quite interesting.  It was one thing when we all lived together in a large house...now it's just Kisa, Tag and me in this small apartment.  Kisa is a very nice cat, though not real outgoing.  In the time we have been here, though, she is becoming more social.  And, she keeps Tag company.

So.  Here we are.  That's all I have for now.

What are your weekend plans?

What Inspires Me...

I see a lot of things I like...and that I would like to make, but not all of them truly inspire me.  This, on the other hand...definitely does.  This quilt is made up of churn dash and monkey wrench blocks...
as well as plenty of half-square triangles.  Isn't it fabulous?  (I apologize...I never noted where I saw the photo so am unable to give credit to the person who made it.)  What I love about this quilt is that there is a method to its madness, yet it looks so random.  It so inspired me that when I belonged to the Bee Addicted 3 block swap two years ago, churn dash and monkey wrench blocks were what I asked for.  Alas, those blocks are still waiting to be worked with.  I think at the time it seemed like such a huge project.  Perhaps I'll get to it this year.

Take a look at these churn dash quilts made by Erin of Why Not Sew?.  She stitched one by hand and one by machine...

Be sure to click on the photo to enlarge it.  I love her use of fabrics...these small quilts look so old and soft and already loved.  Don't you think?

You may remember that our first block in the hand-pieced quiltalong, with Erin of Why Not Sew?  was the churn dash block.  Here's mine...

Last but not least, my latest inspiration...this small quilt I saw at Purl Bee.

They call it Masking Tape Quilt...because of the way the little square blocks of fabric look.  I think it is dang cute.

Wondering where all of this is leading?  Why, to this little churn dash quilt I am working on.  All the blocks are pieced...and this is about as random as I get.  And, yet, there is some kind of order to it.  The top is finished...I would love to have it completely done before Sunday night comes.

What inspires you?

Day Off...

I have today off.
I love 3 day weekends, don't you?

What am I doing?
Reading, relaxing, sewing.
Cuddling with Tag in my big easy chair.
In no particular order.

I've been working on two small quilts today...
am definitely making progress.
It should come as no surprise
to you to hear (read)
that I am thinking ahead
to my next small project.

I plan to make this quilt.
Here are the fabrics I'll be starting with...

I may need to add in more white backgrounds.
I may make the blocks a bit larger.
I think this will be quite striking!

A Few More Things...

I haven't accomplished much more sewing today.
I've been reading...
have I mentioned lately how much
I love my kindle?
I do, ya know.
Love it.

Did I tell you that I named it?
Yes, my kindle.
It wasn't my idea...
when I registered it with amazon.com,
they asked me to name it.
How could I refuse?

edited to add:  I named it kashmir...as in 'kashmir kindle'.
{grin}

I also watched a movie today...
"Wall Street:  Money Never Sleeps"
with Michael Douglas.
It was okay, and I do like Michael Douglas.
I watched the first "Wall Street"
movie several years ago (made in 1987).
Wanted to watch that one again
before I saw this one...but didn't.

I made a few Sawtooth Star blocks...
I am following (sort of) the quiltalong
with Cheri Payne of quiltsbycheri .
These blocks measure about 4.5 inches...
fun and easy to put together.

That's all I have.

Hope you're having a great weekend.
