Family and More...

It has been a busy week.  Me Mum and sister arrived in Canon City on Tuesday!  We are so excited!  Jill and I had found a very nice duplex for them and we had the truck unloaded when they arrived. It all worked out so well.  Less stress than it could have been, for sure.

Not sure if you knew, but me Mum - who is 85 years old - has Parkinson's Disease. She does very well with it, but does require help and cannot live alone.  Julie has lived with Mum for almost 4 years...Jill and I are very happy that they live here so that we will be able to help with Mum.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day!  It has been several years since Mum has had more than one or two (of the 4 of us) with her on that special day.  We are looking forward to celebrating together.

I have not had much time with Naomi Janome, but I did manage to make what I had originally planned to be a mini quilt into a pillow cover.  Cuz, you know how much I love pillows!  It's the envelope pattern by Carolyn Friedlander.  I rather enjoy paper piecing, and need to do more of it.  The fabric is Doglandia by Peter Horjus.  I have made other pillow covers and cloth napkins with this fabric...seen here and here.

Speaking of paper-piecing.  I have not done anything with my wonderful little hexies.  Trying to decide what to do with them...several options are available.

I have been slowly working on a t-shirt quilt for my niece, Jody. She is a very patient woman...I say that because this should have been done a year ago.  But, with the move and all...well, it just wasn't happening. BUT...I now have all of the t-shirts interfaced and cut to size and I am beginning to cut/sew the filler strips.  It's going to take concentration and planning...which I am not in huge supply of. However, my plan is to have it done in time for Jody when she comes for a visit in late July.

In other news...I am still putting my apartment together.  I got some barn siding boards a few months ago.  I needed to sand them down somewhat, otherwise the paint would flake off and they would be difficult to dust.  So, I sanded them down and put 2 coats of sealer on them.  I found the perfect iron brackets and got the long shelves put up this past week.

Here is what I have on the living room shelf thus far...it will primarily be for family photos.  The shelf is 6.5 ft. long...

So far, the 4 ft. long dining area shelf looks like this...

Well, I think that is about all that is going on with me.

Have a great weekend.

Big on Photos...

I know you all have been waiting ~grin~ ...
I can now show you all the things I have made
and didn't show here because they were (mostly) gifts.

Curtains for my sewing room.
I actually made these way back in September,
but I failed to show them off to you.
Love this bright yellow!

Two pillows for my living room.  The one on the right is black linen with natural linen on the front and natural linen on the back.  Zipper on the other end.  12 x 22 inches.  The one on the left is a black print I've had forever with Kona solid in Stone.  16 inches.

Doll clothes for 18-20 inch Waldorf (or dolls with a similar build).

Kleenex cozies for sister Joyce.

Pillow covers.

This is really a crappy photo, but it's the only one I have right now.
Coin purse.

Key fob.

Table Runners.
Ran across Erin's Tree Farm tutorial on Christmas Eve morning
and quickly whipped up these two runners.
13x29 inches.
11x21 inches.

I gifted myself with this book.
Are you familiar with Yoko's work?
It is simply amazing!!
Cannot wait to make up a few pieces using her techniques.
Go here to look through the book.

I had a wonderful Christmas with Jill and Tim.
Vegetable pizza and chicken tacos...
card-playing and gift-opening.

I have a lot of plans for the coming year.
Will share that with you in a post after New Year's Day.

Wishing you all the very best...
have a Happy New Year!

Simple Sewing Sunday...

I did some sewing this morning.  Just some simple sewing (hence the name of this post).  I made a 14x22 inch pillow cover for myself.  Nothing difficult...but extremely satisfying.

You may think that you've seen this pillow before.  And, you are correct. Partially.  Here is what you're thinking of...

This is the pillow I made for Kim, back in July.  It is just a plain pillow cover, with no quilting (per her request).  The one I made for myself today is quilted with horizontal lines and variegated thread. Just because.

Sister Jill and I went to Pueblo yesterday.  Pueblo is about 30 miles from Canon City and is much larger...about 6 times larger than Canon City.  Lots more shopping there.  Yesterday, we visited Kohl's, Hobby Lobby, and Jack-in-the-Box.  I need wall art for the six foot wall that is in the dining area of this apartment.  I think this is a good start, though I have no clear plan...just will add to this as I see more that I would like to hang there.

This is going to be a fun week.  I am going to finally meet a longtime friend...we met online on the Wool Snippets message board but have never been together in person.  I am so excited! More on that later.

Have a great week!

Best-Laid Plans and All That...

Two years ago, I purchased some fabric.  Wait! What?  ~grin~ Okay...just read on.  It is called Doglandia and it is - yes, of course it is - dog-themed. Here is the post I wrote when I purchased it...in August of 2013. Big plans for it, as you will see.  Click here.

Since then, I have acquired more fabric and made more plans for those fabrics and, well, you know how that goes. So, a few months ago, I decided that I was never going to follow through with the plans I had for the Doglandia fabrics.  That is when I made Kim a few pillows with it...

Then, as I was organizing my new sewing room these last few weeks, I came across the rest of this fabric. I set it aside, because I knew I needed to do more with it.  Like...make a pillow or two for myself. And, then...I decided that I should make some napkins.  So, that's what Naomi Janome and I were up to yesterday...sewing cloth napkins.

How fun are these?

I actually made two of the brown ones...and there is enough fabric left to make a few pillow covers.

Have a great weekend!

Catching Up...

Tag is doing well.  Although, I gotta say, Tuesday was a very rough day.  Tag did everything he could to avoid putting weight on his right leg.  He was in so much pain, poor boy.  Long story short, I increased his meds and he is doing much better.  We've been able to take short walks the last few days...something he enjoys immensely.

I haven't been sewing too much, but I have gotten a few things done.

While sorting through fabric a few weeks ago and cutting squares for my scrap containers, I cut out for 22 Kleenex cozies.  I showed 7 of them in my last post, and here are the other 15...

And, I made an 18" square pillow cover with back envelope closure for Kim.  No patchwork, no quilting, nothing fancy, but exactly what she wanted...

Speaking of pillow covers, I also finished the 18" square pillow cover for Rachel.  Quilted simply and with a zipper at the bottom...

Paul and Rachel will now have their quilt and two pillows each.  I am feeling good about that.

I have some special projects coming up next.  I think you will be surprised.  Stay tuned!
