It's the weekend...YAY!
What's especially exciting about this one is that
Princess Kaylynn is coming for a visit!
We had a bunch of snow yesterday,
but the roads should be drivable by now.
I have some errands to run
and then I think we'll bake cookies.
I haven't been doing too much
sewing this past week,
but I did finish Block 4.
I am really liking these.
In fact, they make me...
swoon.
{grin}
Question...
When piecing your quilt blocks,
do you press your seams to the side
or do you open them up?
I have always pressed to the side
(the dark side...{grin})
but with this block, pressing
the seams open seemed a better way.
It sure helped to reduce the bulk.
But, I gotta say, it does take longer!

Stay tuned for a giveaway coming
this way very soon!

You know I am such a stickler about the pressing of seams, I think it depends on the the material and the amount of bunching on the back. My sewing teacher in grade school demanded the seam be pressed open. I got into that habit. Then I took quilting classes 20 years ago and they just had me press the seam toward the natural way the seam laid. I always think it looks prettier pressed open but now I just do it the easier way. unless of course the seam just looks too bunched up. When my daughter took sewing classes that was a big gripe of mine, that teacher didn't have them press seams at all. I just think it adds so much to the finished project.
Gee whiz now I sound just like my Mom did. :) Who knew my OCD lurked in the seam pressing issue.
Have fun and a lovely weekend your sweet grand daughter, it sound like a great start to a weekend.
I usually press to the side, I think it makes the seams stronger, than laying them open.

Peanut butter cookies? My favorite!!!! Another great block finished! I haven't done much piecing, but I usually follow the press to the dark side "rule"... but, I would probably press them open if it would reduce bulk... though I have read that pressing the seams open makes a weak seam... sounds to me like there is no easy answer? lol!
