Bloggers' Quilt Festival :: Fall 2011

It's that time of year again!
Each spring and fall,
Amy hosts the festival...
a fun time for all blogging quilters
to share a special quilt and its story.

It is so much fun to visit all
of the blogs to see everyone's
entry and to read all the stories...
and comments!

Click on the button to check out and
be inspired by all of the special quilts.

I had a difficult time choosing which
quilt I wanted to showcase here.
In the end, I chose the one
that was made for a
very special friend of mine.

The 'sunshine' quilt, as I like to call it.
The one I made for Doreen...
because she has lung cancer...
because I wanted to show my love for her...
wrap her in it, so to speak.

Doreen has been a very best friend
of mine for almost 40 years.
I love this woman so much...
she is one brave woman.
So far, she is holding her own.

So.
This is the quilt I made for her.
Sunshine Quilt.

Thank you for visiting...
have fun checking out all
the other quilts in the festival!

Done and Gone...

The 'Sunshine' quilt for Doreen measures
54 x 57 inches after laundering.
I used Kona Cotton Solid in Banana for the backing.

Here's Doreen with her daughter,
Stacy & granddaughter, Payton.

The quilt is passing inspection...

I love you so!

Laying It All Out...

I've started laying out
the pieces of the sunshine quilt.
Of the 16 fabrics in this quilt,
9 of them are medium value.
It's taking some work to place them, for sure!
To have contrast between the pieces,
I'm working with values
as well as patterns of the fabrics.

Here's what I have so far...

What do you think?

I think that there are a few pieces I could move...
but you know how that goes.
Move one.
Move another.
And another.
And so on.
So, I'm leaving this.
For now, anyway.

What I show here is taking up my entire 'design wall'.
Gonna need to figure out how to lay out the rest of it.

It's a 3 day weekend, so I'm hoping to get a lot done on this.

What do you have planned for the next 3 days?

Summer Sunshine

Doreen.
Oh, how I love her.
She's been my friend forever.
And, ever.
We don't see each other.
Ever.

She is a ray of sunshine...
beautiful inside and out.
She has the cutest dang giggle.
She has cancer.

I am making her a sunshine quilt.
I'll take photos as I progress with this.
