Not About Quilting...or Napkins...or Kleenex Cozies...

Nope, this post is about hooking.  Wool rug hooking, that is.

It has been a very long time since I sat down and hooked on a rug.  It was back in February of 2011, when I finished my 2sheep rug.  Remember that one?  I loved that rug, but ended up giving it to a good friend.

Here's a photo...

Since that time, I re-homed most of my rughooking supplies.  I did keep my frame and a few tools, though.  I also kept two rugs.  One that was never started and one that was started but never finished  The unstarted one...3 collies and a lab...let's be real...that one is never going to be hooked.  But, the star rug?  I have recently been thinking that it would be a good thing to work on.  Here's a photo of how it looks thus far...

It isn't like I'm looking for something to do, because....well, you know...I have a lot of projects on my list.  Nope...it's because I was inspired by Kelley of With Hook and NeedleShe posted progress photos of a rug she was hooking on Facebook...and I fell in love with that rug!  Guess where it is now?  Here on my living room floor!!!  ohmygosh...I love it!!!
Isn't it gorgeous?  I love it so much!  It measures about 16 x 26 inches and fits perfectly in front of my tv cabinet.

And, Kelley also sent along this little mat (about 7 inches square) for me...isn't it too cute?  She left it for me to finish off as a pincushion or a mat...for now it is laying on my table so that I can see it (and smile) often throughout the day!  (This isn't showing good color...the background is more red than it looks, here.)

I have always loved Kelley's work...she is the best at primitive.

I will let you know what I decide as far as finishing my big a** star rug.

Favorite Hooked Rug...Ever!

The anniversary of my move to Colorado is coming up.  Of course, what that brings to mind is all things that occurred before my move which are Tag-related.  (Like, for real, those things are never out of my mind, though.  Ya know?)

I am not going to say anything about the brown boy.  Perhaps someday, just not today.

What I wanted you to know, though, was that I found something today that I had completely forgotten about...and when I saw it, I smiled.  That, right there, was reason enough to pull it out and put it in place.

I hooked this 22 x 29 inch rug in 2007.  It was a free pattern in Rug Hooking Magazine that I fell in love with.  I enlarged it (a lot!).  I hooked it with woolens I had dyed.  And, I named it 'Tag E. Butt'.  Yes, I did!

When I finished it, I declared it to be my favorite rug.  Ever.  Why? Because the dog is so goofy looking.  Though Tag was not goofy looking, he could be a very goofy boy...caught on film and shown several times on this very blog.  I thought this goofy looking dog captured the very essence of the brown boy.

It makes me smile.

This hooked rug is now on the bedroom floor in front of my cedar chest, which is at the end of my bed.

I'm still smiling.

Days Gone By...

I have a bazillion things on my list.  I bet that you do, too.  Don't you?  Among other projects, I need to make a quilt for someone else to give as a Christmas gift.  Before I start on that, though, I need to sew a few other things.  A scrub top, a remote holder, and a coin purse.  None of them are any big deal for me to make.  I just would rather make the quilt.  I keep thinking about it and looking at the fabrics.  But, I know I cannot begin.  So.  Instead of getting the 3 small projects out of the way, I do nothing.  Why is that?  It's not as if I have oodles of time.  Right?  {sigh}  I will get at them.  Everything always gets done.

Did I tell you that me Mum (well, she's Julie's Mum, too) is coming for a visit?  A nice long visit...9 days.  She'll be here later today.  It will be very nice to have her here. She loves to play cards...dimes, shit on your neighbor (or, in this case, daughters), and cribbage.  I'm hoping, though, that I'll have a bit of time each day to work on my projects.

Knowing that company is coming gives me just the little push I need to get a few things done that I just haven't gotten around to doing.  One example...I finally hung my 2Sheep hooked rug on the wall.  It's been rolled up in a towel since I finished it almost 9 months ago.

Here's a closer look if you've not seen this before.  Click here for the quick story.

I like it on the wall.  I like being able to see it as I walk through the house.  I smile at it.  Making this rug was a long process and I am very happy to finally enjoy it.

More later.
