Last Night...

I think this is the best Friday Night Sew-in I have had!  I actually accomplished a lot!  (Helped that the one show I wanted to watch on tv was not on!)  Here is the 'diggers & dozers' quilt top that I finished piecing.  It still needs borders...measures about 50x52" right now.

Also.  I got these borders put together last night, though I didn't sew them on until this morning.

The tiny border (1/4") is a pale blue with pink rosebuds.  (Thanks, Janer!)  Which, by the way, is what I am using for the backing fabric.  So, I thought I would add a special touch to the front with it.  Only so much pink one can handle.  Not sure if you can tell, but the inside edge is not sewn down.  I took 1" strips of fabric, sewed them together (end to end), folded/ironed in half, then sewed to the outside edges of the quilt top all the way around.  Like one would do a regular border.  Then, I sewed  the wider pink border on top of it.  Just gives it a little something...and breaks up all that pink!  I like it.

Hope you're having a great Saturday!

FNSI Results.

My goal for last night was to make this apron.

It's a simple over the head, tie in back apron.

Have a great weekend!

FNSI Results!

I am happy to say that
I finished this little quilt!
Yay!

(oops...a few threads yet to be dealt with!)

(See my foot?  My crocs match the green really well!  haha!)

This quilt is part of the dqs9 swap.
It measures about 18" square.
Will tell you all the details soon.

Now, before you say anything about the binding...
I can hear you, ya know!
You're saying, "What is she thinking?
Look at how crooked that binding is...!"

I was dismayed to see how crooked the spots were.
I was sure I had cut the fabric straight on the grain.
Cuz, you know...it's not like
cutting fabric is something new to me!

I checked out the fabric.
Due diligence and all that.
I found that the spots are not
on the straight of grain,
hmmmm...interesting.

What's a woman to do?
Gave some thought to starting over...
cutting it crooked, so the spots were straight.
But, quickly vetoed that idea.
Better to have straight fabric than spots.

That's what I think, anyway.
What do you think?

(by the way, the fabric is Half Moon 'Spots'...
that's why they are spots not dots.)

Fresh Scrappy Doll Quilt...fnsi

Here's what I did with my Friday Night Sew-in...
I put together this little doll quilt.
It's made with scraps of the Fresh fabric line
(still more scraps left from this quilt)
by Deb Strain for Moda and with
Kona solid cotton in white.

Just cut & sewed strips
and joined them together.
Easy peasy.
I love the crisp look of it.
So, I haven't washed it, yet.

I quilted in random lines with
a green variegated thread...
barely shows on the back,
but I like the look on the front.

This will go in my etsy shop later today.

My Friday Night Sew-in Results!

I wasn't sure that I was going to get anything done last night.  I had to watch 'Flashpoint' (love that show!) before I started, but was afraid that I wouldn't have the energy and/or ambition once I turned the tv off.  But, I did.  I had the energy.  In fact, I stayed up into the wee hours.  Not sewing all the time...had an hour long visit on the phone with my sister in Alaska.

Anyway.  Here's the scoop...I wanted to make a bag that wasn't completely open at the top (like a tote), but one that didn't have a snap or button to undo.  So.  I thought...how about a foldover top?  Sounded great to me.  I wasn't sure on size, so I went smaller rather than larger to start with.  Here's what I came up with...about 10" wide by 10" high up to the foldover.

We shall see how this works out.

Have a great weekend!

Friday Night Sew-in...

Yup, tonight's the night!  I haven't done any sewing at all  for a week, so it'll be good to work on something.  Not sure what, but I do have a few ideas running around in my head that I should put to paper and fabric.  Go here to sign up for tonight!

What will you be working on tonight?

My Friday Night Sew-in Results!

I didn't get as much done as I thought I might, but I am very pleased with what I did accomplish.

You saw this yesterday...another tote bag.

You didn't see this...a doll quilt made with scraps that were in the giveaway box I won from Cathy of Quilting on Turtle Hill .  This sweet quilt measures about 15 inches square.  I love this color combo!

I spent some time trying to get this perfectly matched.  This is the backing for my large whirlygig quilt.  I wanted the backing to be one huge gorgeous piece of floral fabric.  Not pieced.  As you can see, I am just a teeny tiny bit off.  I think that once it's quilted and wash/dried, it won't be at all noticeable.  (click on photo to enlarge)

That's all, folks!
Have a great weekend!

Sew Far...

I've been working my little fingers to the bone.

I took time out to run a few errands.

I need to eat lunch...

BUT, I have my list and will continue to work
until I drop from exhaustion late tonight.

Not kidding.
I have much to do!

For your viewing pleasure...
What are you doing tonight?

Friday Night Sew-in...

Tonight is this month's 'Friday Night Sew-in
(click on the link for more info...and to join in).

Because I have the day off,
I decided that I would
get started early and sew all day!
(Other than the bit of time spent running errands, that is.)
I have more than enough projects to work on, for sure!

It's rainy and dreary, here...so the perfect day for
Naomi Janome & I to spend together.

Friday Night Sew-in...

Yup, here it is...Friday Night Sew-in again!
YAY!
I'm not sure what I'll work on, but I have plenty to choose from.
Perhaps the postage stamp quilt...
perhaps the binding on Janer's quilt,
perhaps the quilting on the blush baby quilt...
perhaps...
well, I don't know.
But, I know I will be working on something!
Have a great Friday night!

Friday Night Sew-in...

It's tonight!  I am psyched...have my evening all planned out.  Eat, feed Tag, put jams on, get good music on, start sewing!

I am going to start piecing Paul's quilt...I am so excited!  I was going to wait until I had a few more things done.  Like the 3 quilt tops that are waiting to be basted and quilted and finished.  However, I am short on batting, so they'll have to wait until I get over to Hobby Lobby.  In the meantime, I can start on this!  {grin}

Just as a reminder...here is the pile of fabric pieces all cut out and ready to go.

A Succesful Night of Sewing.

I am happy to say that the Friday Night Sew-in was again a success for me!  Participating in it makes me focus...knowing I'll need to show photos of what I worked on.  So, instead of watching every single minute of the Olympics, I actually did some good work.

I did watch tv here & there...was fortunate to catch the gracious Evan Lysacek (gotta love him!), caught some skiing & watched all of the ice dancing.

Here's what I got done...

Finally figured out how I wanted to do
the backing for my doll quilt swap quilt.
Put it together and got it quilted.
Here's the front...love making these snowballs!

And, I finished putting this top together.
This is the quilt I am making for a friend...
to donate to her son's school fundraiser.

I am happy with what I got done, and
it gave me a great start to the weekend.
